Ro-Myung Gong, chairman of Pyeongchang’s bid committee for the 2010 Winter Olympic Games, told a press conference on the opening day of the fifth Asian Winter Games in Pyeongchang, that there are five reasons why the city should win the bid.
He said the Pyeongchang has an ideal natural environment for winter sports and a thousand-year culture. It can provide a convenient transportation network.
He also said the city has “an abundant accommodation facilities”, Korea has experience in hosting major international events such as the 1988 Olympic Games and the 2002 World Cup, and the bid has strong support from the government and the people.
Gong promised that if Pyeongchang is awarded the Games, athletes, officials, the media, and spectators could enjoy easy access to all competition venues. He said, “all competition venue could be reached within one hour from Games headquarters”.
Gong said “the Korean government set out to fully support our bid. They will invest $3.2 billion (U.S.) in construction of sports venues and other relevant projects.
And according to a poll, about 90 per cent of Korean people are in support of the bid”, said Gong.
