Push To Reinstate Baseball At Olympics

There will be a full-scale push to keep baseball in the Olympic Games after U.S. Olympic Committee chairman Peter Ueberroth said he supported the move, but added that officials from the IBAF, the international baseball federation, and Major League Baseball (MLB) “need to take the lead in this effort”.

Aldo Notari, head of the IBAF, recently flew to Southern California to meet with Ueberroth and other baseball insiders, according to Alan Abrahamson of the L.A. Times. He told Abrahamson in an interview, “baseball belongs to the Olympic Games”.

After being encouraged by former International Olympic Committee (IOCO) president Juan Antonio Samaranch and others Notari and Ueberroth met last Thursday at Ueberroth’s Orange County offices, which led to a sincere commitment to work together for baseball’s reinstatement.

The L.A. Times reports that another meeting is scheduled for Monday in Lausanne.
