Push For Bowling At Beijing 2008 Games

The Philippines is pushing for bowling to be included in the Beijing 2008 Summer Olympic Games, reports the Inquirer News Service. World FIQ President Steve Hontiveros said the sport, which gave the Philippines a series of triumphs last year, has a big chance of finally making it to the Olympics.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has already ruled out adding more events to this year’s Athens 2004 Games, but Hontiveros said there is a “big possibility that the IOC would open its doors to one or two sports where Asians excel since the next (Summer) Olympics will be held in China”.

He said the likely candidates are bowling and wushu, a Chinese sport, which the country also considers a strong Olympic medal prospect.
