Poll Shows Overwhelming Approval For Korea’s 2010 Bid

According to a Korea Gallup poll commissioned by Gangwon-do, 91.8 per cent of Koreans support Pyeongchang, Gangwon province’s bid to host the 2010 Winter Olympic bid.

Between March 22 and March 30 1,544 Koreans aged 20 or older were polled. More than half of the respondents (38.5 per cent or 546 people) said they approved of the bid because it would promote Korea’s presence on the world’s stage.

More than 35 per cent or 498 of respondents said that the Olympics will spur economic development in the region and more than 87 per cent or 1,356 said they expect the Olympics will be a focal point “for the pride of Korean citizens”.

And economic development was cited as another positive legacy of the Olympics by 1,298 respondents (or 84 per cent).
