Poll Shows London 2012 Gets Limited Support

According to a poll released Tuesday, only thirty five per cent of Britons think London’s bid for the 2012 Summer Olympic Games is a bad idea and thirty per cent do not care either way, reports Reuters.

The poll, from online consumer company Claritas Interactive, interviewed 2500 people over five weeks.

The British Olympic Association and government research had earlier indicated that eighty one per cent of respondents endorsed the bid.

There have been concerns about London’s transport system and whether it could take the strain of carrying the flood of visitors expected for the 2012 Games.

And Britain’s ruling Labour Party had been questioning if the huge expense of hosting the Games could be justified at a time when money could be spent on cash-poor public services.
