Poll Shows Bay Area Favours 2016 Olympic Bid

A poll by the Bay Area Council shows the Bay Area’s business community supports a regional bid for the 2016 Summer Olympic Games.

Sixty five per cent of local CEOs and top executives want the Games, according to 515 people polled in July.

Bay Area Council president and CEO Jim Wunderman said in a news release the 2012 bid “was historic for the Bay Area and brought the region one of its finest hours of unity” as well as a valuable learning experience.

The poll showed support for a 2016 bid, at 80 per cent, is strongest among San Mateo County business leaders, followed by San Francisco executives at 70 per cent. Also the survey shows 69 per cent of business leaders say they would attend the Olympics if held in the Bay Area.

Anne Cribbs, chairwoman of the Bay Area Sports Organizing Committee who spearheaded the 2012 bid, said she’s “encouraged” by this new show of support. “We are currently waiting for the United States Olympic Committee to release its guidelines and process the bidding cities for 2016. I am confident that the Bay Area will host the Olympic Games in the near future”.
