According to a Deseret News/KSL-TV poll, an unprecedented 83 per cent of Utah residents favour Salt Lake City hosting the 2002 Winter Games. There were few traffic jams and no major security problems.
The poll shows that 77 per cent favour Salt Lake City hosting the Games in the future, given the opportunity.
And 58 per cent say the Games have had “not much” or “no effect at all” on their daily routines. Only 18 per cent said their daily lives were affected “a lot” by having the Olympics in Salt Lake City and other communities.
Also a poll of 600 Games-goers showed that 96 per cent of the respondents believe hosting the Olympics will have a positive impact on Utah’s image. Almost three-quarters of those questioned said “fun” was a key element of their Olympic experience. By comparison, 67 per cent said that of Sydney and 17 per cent of Atlanta.
The poll also showed that 63 per cent of Utahns said transportation was much or somewhat better than expected.
