A Paris 2012 official said Thursday that Paris plans to build a five-pool swimming complex to be completed by 2007 about 500 metres from the Stade de France, but construction won’t start until after the decision as to who will host the 2012 Summer Games.
The swimming complex will feature a 20,000-seat main arena, and a 5,000-seat pool for water polo and diving. A sixth pool, used by swimmers to warm up and cool down, will be built if Paris wins the bid.
The cost of the facility could reach $91 million (U.S.), said media relations director Jerome Lenfant.
If Paris wins, parts of the swimming complex would be modified after the 2012 Games.
