Paralympic Committee Say Athens 2004 Paralympic Games Progress “Encouraging”

Representatives of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) and Athens 2004 have been meeting in Athens Greece for the past three days. It was their third meeting.

Francois Terranova, Chairperson of the IPC Games Liaison Committee said, “the progress made is very encouraging. We now have less than 600 days to go to the opening of the Paralympic Games and we are entering into a critical phase”.

Terranova said progress has been made in many areas, including transportation, accommodation and medical services, although there are still some areas that need to be further addressed. These include participation of the information technology partners, finalization of the budget and the promotion of the Games.

There are now 110 National Paralympic Committees confirmed for the Games, and about 4,000 athletes are expected to compete in 20 sports and 19 venues during the Paralympics.

The 2004 Paralympic Games will take place from September 17 to 28, using the same venues and facilities as the Olympic Games.
