Following the first day of a three-day visit by the Coordination Committee of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC), IPC members pointed out to officials of Athens 2004 that accessible means of transport and infrastructure will be the most important legacy for Athens and Greece in general.
The members of the IPC delegation decided not to visit the Olympic/Paralympic venues, as originally planned, opting instead to examine and discuss with the Athens 2004 executives the special adjustment projects at all the Paralympic competition and non-competition venues.
Athens will acquire more than 300 buses, each with a capacity to carry 4-6 wheelchairs per trip, as well as taxis designed for people with a disability. Also, all steady track (rail-line) means of transportation, suburban rail, light rail and Metro will be fully accessible to people with a disability.
