Thailand’s Prime Minister Gen. Surayud Chulanont led a “colourful” campaign parade Thursday to boost Bangkok’s bid to host the first Summer Youth Olympic Games in 2010.
There were one hundred Thai three-wheeled “tuk tuk” cycles in the parade, and a thousand students marched and waved Thailand’s national flag in the parade to support Bangkok’s bid.
“The government will fully support bidding for the Bangkok Summer Youth Olympic Games and also hope that Thai nationals and media will wholeheartedly support Bangkok,” the prime minister said.
Bangkok and four other cities, including Athens (Greece), Moscow (Russia), Singapore and Turin (Italy), have been selected by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) as candidates. The IOC will announce the winner in February.
