Openvillage To Promote Turin 2006 Games

Turin begins the Openvillage tour April 16 to raise the public’s awareness of the 2006 Winter Olympic Games. The Openvillage is a 3,000 square metre structure consisting of a screen that shows 3D video footage and equipment that will simulate the effects of the wind and snow one would encounter in the mountains where the 2006 Games will be held.

One of the pavilions will enable visitors, estimated to be about 100,000 when the tour ends, to compare their sporting performances with those of Olympic champions.

Computer screens will provide information relating to the history of the Games.

Visitors will be able to test their Olympic knowledge through some of the 2,200 quizzes specially created for the Openvillage concept.

All the events including light shows and other performances are free.

First stop on the Openvillage tour is Catania where a promotional video will star Italy’s ski legend Alberto Tomba.

There will be other sports personalities endorsing the Turin 2006 Games as the tour continues.

Openvillage will have its own Internet Web site which can be reached through the official Turin 2006 Web site.

The site will follow the Olympicvillage’s itinerary as it travels throughout Italy.
