More than 400 world leaders and international “personalities” have signed the Olympic Truce which dates back to the cease-fire between warring city-states during the ancient Games in Greece.
George Papandreou, former vice chairman of the initiative, promoted the truce as foreign minister. “Sport cannot enforce peace, but it can inspire it. If we can have peace for 16 days then maybe, just maybe, we can have peace forever”.
Truce organizers asked all national Olympic Committee members to sign the initiative.
