Thomas Bach, Vice President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), told Frankfurt’s Sunday newspaper that the “marks and symbols” of the IOC are not protected under German law and at present Germany cannot put in an official bid for the 2012 Summer Olympic Games.
According to the Olympic Charter the IOC has the worldwide rights to the Olympic rings and can assign them to the National Olympic Committees.
But Bach said there is still plenty of time for Germany to change its legislation.
The German law must be changed before 2005, when the IOC selects the host city for the 2012 Games.
