The Nordic Golf Federation, which represents the federations of Norway, Sweden, Iceland, Finland and Denmark, has asked the European Golf Association (EGA) to make golf part of the Olympic program during Beijing’s 2008 Summer Games.
Golf was last featured at the Olympics in 1904, with its first appearance four years earlier.
Nordic federation president Juhani Suomela of Finland is hoping for EGA support for the bid to the International Olympic Committee. Suomela says that Olympic golf could encompass amateur as well as professional representatives.
His main argument for the Game’s inclusion is statistical – golf is currently one of the most practiced games in the world.
