Recently the International Olympic Committee announced that there’s a possibility that golf could be added to the Olympic Games as early as the 2008 Games in Beijing.
Two cities, San Francisco and New York, are bidding to become the U.S. candidate for the 2012 Summer Games.
Tony Winnicker, a spokesman for the Bay Area Sports Organizing Committee, told the Mercury News that the San Francisco bid committee has had conversations with three golf courses, Pebble Beach, Bethpage Black Olympic Club and Winged Foot. He said, “these courses are obviously excited and very interested in the possibility of hosting Olympic gold in 2012, but to say those conversations have been serious and specific would be premature”.
A decision is expected in November.
