Halifax 2014 bid organizers are taking part in two events this weekend – the Commonwealth Games Canada’s annual general meeting in Halifax, and hosting two top officials from the London-based Commonwealth Games Federation who will visit potential Halifax 2014 Commonwealth Games venues.
Mike Hooper, the federation’s chief executive officer, said Thursday his trip to Halifax is part of visits to all three 2014 candidate cities. He and federation president Mike Fennell were in Glasgow and Abuja last month, reports the Chronicle Herald.
Executives will tour parts of Halifax Saturday and a news conference for officials and Halifax 2014 representatives is scheduled for Saturday afternoon.
Hooper said, “these one-on-one visits allow us to respond directly to any particular questions or points of clarification that each city may have. It…also gives us the opportunity to (see) each city first-hand and hear from each city their particular plans”.
Bid committee officials are to make a presentation at the annual general meeting Saturday,
The newspaper reports that visits to Halifax and other candidate cities follow a seminar for officials of the cities’ bid committee that the federation hosted in July in Melbourne, host of the 2006 Commonwealth Games.
