Eurosport reports that Madrid city council said it would make an official announcement Thursday of a bid for the 2016 Games after a special meeting that will rubber-stamp a proposal by the ruling Popular Party.
Madrid lost its bid for the 2012 Summer Games but International Olympic Committee President (IOC) Jacques Rogge said this year that European cities would still have a chance to host the 2016 Games. He told reporters in March, “if a bid is strong enough, the idea of rotating the Games between continents will not come into play”.
