Now that New York has been chosen the U.S. candidate for the 2012 Summer Olympic Games, there will be games of another kind.
John Fisher, head of the Clinton Special District Coalition, named for one of the West Side neighbourhoods where a proposed Olympic stadium would be built should New York host the 2012 Games, said, “this is not a done deal. It hardens our opposition”.
The group is opposed to a New York Olympics claiming it would destroy neighbourhood character, displace families, create wretched traffic and place a backbreaking tax burden on New Yorkers, reports the Herald Tribune.
City officials said repeatedly they were not seeking sympathy to compensate for the Sept. 11 terror attacks, but Fisher said former Mayor Rudolph Giuliani’s presence at the presentation today in Colorado Springs showed otherwise.
