NOC President Confident Of Abuja 2014 Commonwealth Games Win

Habu Gumel, President of the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC), said he was confident that Abuja will win its bid for the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

Gumel told Tidesports that the bid committee was doing everything possible to secure the hosting rights.

He said, “the 2014 bid committee chaired by retired Gen. Yakubu Gowon has prepared a fantastic final phase presentation designed to sway members of the Commonwealth Games family on November 9 in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

“Many Commonwealth Games Associations (CGA) from member countries have been coming around to inspect our facilities as part of the country’s readiness to host the events.

Gumel, chairman of the Technical Committee for Abuja’s bid, said the majority of the delegates were impressed with Abuja’s level of preparedness and promised support for the country.

He said the facilities used for the 8th All Africa Games hosted by Nigeria in Abuja were upgraded to meet the requirements of the Commonwealth Games Federation.
