No Hotel Room Shortage At Rio 2016 Games

One of the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) main concerns about Rio hosting the 2016 Summer Olympic Games was that there wouldn’t be enough hotel rooms to accommodate all the visitors attending the Games. But now hotel industry officials in Brazil reportedly say there won’t be a shortage of rooms.

Alvaro Brito Bezerra de Mello, President of the Brazilian hotel association, told O Globo newspaper Monday that there is a “favourable” trend in the creation of new hotel rooms before the Games, thanks mostly to incentives from the city.

He said that 9,000 new hotel rooms have been announced since Rio was awarded the 2016 Games last year.

Mello said there will also be enough rooms in the city for the 2014 World Cup.
