There is no guaranty that any of the 28 Olympic sports, including the marquee events of athletics and swimming, will be participating in the Olympic Games beyond 2008.
International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Jacques Rogge told a newspaper Thursday that a simple majority of the 124 IOC members convening in Singapore in July would be required for a sport to keep its spot. He said, “At the IOC session the IOC members will vote on the different 28 sports and make a decision; it will take a simple majority whether they are in or out”.
