Nigeria Sports Commission Head Supports Abuja 2014

Bala Ka’oje, Chairman of the Nigeria Sports Commission (NSC) has called on presidents of National Olympic Committees and Commonwealth Games Associations to ensure that Abuja wins the right to host the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

The Tide News reports that Ka’oje sent a letter to presidents of international sports bodies saying that 2014 was symbolic in Nigeria’s political life because the country would celebrate its 100 years as a nation that year.

He said Nigeria had the capacity in terms of facilities coupled with its antecedents of organizing multi-sport events. “Apart from hosting the All Africa Games twice in 1973 and 2003, the country successfully hosted the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in 2003 among other international conferences”.

Meanwhile presidents of sports federations in the NSC have pledged their total support for Abuja’s 2014 bid. According to The Tide News, Cosmos Maduka, President of the Nigeria Table Tennis Federation, said at a meeting with officials of the bid committee Monday that the country had excellent facilities to host major sporting events, adding that bringing the games to Abuja would afford Nigeria the opportunity to showcase its abundant tourism potential to the world.
