Representatives of 2014 bid cities PyeongChang and Sochi will be taking part in the fifth annual World Forum “Sport and a World of Harmony: The Role of Olympic Education and Culture” in Beijing on October 22 to 24.
Delegates from around the world attending the forum, which is being organized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in collaboration with the Beijing 2008 Organizing Committee and in partnership with UNESCO, will discuss how education and culture can help create a “World of Harmony”.
PyeongChang 2014 is sending Kim Jin-sun, Executive President of the bid committee, and Chairman Han Seung-soo.
The delegation from Sochi 2014 includes Chief Executive Officer Dmitry Chernyshenko, Chief Executive Officer Tatyana Dobrokhvalova, Chief Operating Officer, Andrey Braginski, Communications Director and Denis Gerasev, International Relations Director.
The Forum is attracting experts from around the world to discuss the role of Olympic education and culture and their wider integration across society.
Kim Jin-sun said, “we are delighted to be visiting Beijing at this important stage in the preparations for 2008. The World Forum provides a valuable opportunity for us to engage in dialogue with many experts about how PyeongChang 2014 could contribute to Olympic education and culture to help spread Olympic values around the world”.
Dmitry Chernyshenko commented on the upcoming trip to Beijing “this is a unique opportunity for our bid to see first hand the integration of the cultural and educational aspects of the Olympic program from the perspective of an Organizing Committee. Sochi 2014 is here to learn from BOCOG and use this knowledge to offer a once-in-a-lifetime Games to the Olympic Movement and the Russian nation”.
Meanwhile Salzburg 2014 was promoted at a gala which took place in the Salzburg Arena, one of the planned venues in Salzburg’s 2014 bid. The “Gala Night of Sport” is the sports and social highlight of the year according to Salzburg 2014. The event was broadcast live by Austrian television to millions of viewers who were introduced to Salzburg 2014 ambassadors.
Fedor H. Radmann, head of Salzburg 2014 said, “I am happy, thankful and proud that we have such major sports stars as ambassadors for our bid. Without being asked, they have all declared that they wish to support our bid free of charge. Our ambassadors are giving a lot back to sport and to Austria in their honorary positions, with the same commitment that has made them successful in sport”.
