New York Highlights New Strategy In Bid Addendum

Following submission of it’s 120-page bid book addendum, NYC 2012’s founder Daniel L. Doctoroff, who is also New York’s Deputy Mayor of Economic Development and Rebuilding, said, “today marks another milestone in New York City’s pursuit to become the U.S. Candidate City for hosting the 2012 Olympic Games”. He added “84 per cent of New York City residents and 78 per cent of New York State residents favour hosting the 2012 Olympic Games, with only 13 per cent of the city and 16 per cent of state respondents opposed”.

A highlight of the addendum under the heading “International Strategies” is a discussion of NYC2012’s “Nations of New York” program, an umbrella organization (currently with 93 members which will grow to several hundred by this summer) for the region’s nationality communities, and how they will be marshaled to spread NYC2012’s key messages.

NYC2012 submitted a smaller section on security, which highlights New York’s unequalled expertise for handling major world and national events incorporation the lessons of September 11, including increased intelligence and greater anti-terrorism efforts in the Olympic Security Plan.

According to a NYC2012 press release the Games will create billions of dollars of economic impact, more than 100,000 jobs, and the largest investment in the city’s history in parks and recreation facilities in all five boroughs, because the Games will be privately funded.
