Newsday reports that a vote on the proposal to build a Manhattan stadium for the New York Jets, which would also be the Olympic Stadium should New York win the bid to host the 2012 Summer Olympic Games, will now be held on May 25.
The state Public Authorities Control Board (PACB) was to have voted on the proposal Wednesday, but the vote was postponed.
New York Governor George Pataki said New York City officials will attend the next meeting, reports Newsday.
Board chairman John Cape said, “there has been a request of further disclosure and discussion”. He added there will be additional briefings with the representatives of Democratic Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver and Republican Senate Majority Leader Joseph Bruno, members of the PACB.
According to his spokesman Charles Carrier, Silver wants more answers to questions about the project before he considers casting a vote May 25.
Pataki said the delay “doesn’t help the bid but it doesn’t imperil it. The stadium is still a cornerstone for the Olympic bid and I continue to believe it’s going to happen”.
