New York 2012 Bid Update

New York 2012 announced Monday that its Circle of Olympians and Paralympians has surpassed 1,600 members. The Circle consists of Olympic and Paralympic athletes from all 50 states and 38 countries who support and are actively involved in New York’s bid for the 2012 Summer Olympic Games.

Olympians have been involved with the bid from the beginning and serve on all advisory committees, including the Youth Sports and Education, Facilities, Environmental, Paralympic Games and Executive Committees, as well as on NYC2012’s Board.

NYC2012 also announced the appointment of Charlie Battle as Managing Director of International Relations, as well as four Senior Advisors and its Games Advisory Panel, more than 35 pro-bono consultants who have been providing expertise and knowledge to New York’s Bid.

The panel includes two athletes and various specialists who have all worked on previous Olympic Games.

Charlie Battle, the new Managing Director of International Relations, played a critical role in Atlanta’s campaign for the 1996 Summer Games and then served as Managing Director of International Relations for the Atlanta organizing committee.

He has also served as an advisor for several candidate cities and as a member of the IOC’s evaluation commission for the 2004 Games.
