New Strategic Alliance Launched On Sports Bids

Weber Shandwick (UK) has launched a new specialist unit to help countries and cities in their bids to host major sports, cultural, trade and political events.

The Weber Shandwick Global Bid Unit is a joint venture between the UK public relations firm and sports events bid specialists Jon Tibbs Associates (JTA) following recent successes including helping Beijing secure the 2008 Olympic Games for Beijing.

The new unit will be co-led by Jon Tibbs, founder of JTA and Lord (Tom) McNally as part of his role as vice-chairman of Weber Shandwick in the UK.

Lord McNally said, “as Britain considers a possible bid for London to host the 2012 Olympic Games, this is an exciting and timely initiative by Weber Shandwick. Uniquely our team comprises the best experience of major successful bids including the last three bids for the Summer Olympic Games, (Beijing, Athens and Sydney) as well as the Turin 2006 Winter Olympic bid. We combine that with an ability to deliver integrated communications to all key audiences thanks to Weber Shandwick’s strengths in key practices and geographies”.
