New Rail Project To Boost Abuja’s 2014 Commonwealth Bid

Jing Wenchang, Chief Engineer of China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation, says that work on the Lagos-Kano railway will begin in November. Wenchang was in Abuja Wednesday meeting with residents whose communities would be affected by the project.

The 1,315 km double track railway line will pass through Abuja while a single track line would run from Minna through Abuja, to Katsina State, boosting Abuja’s bid for the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

Work on the two projects is to begin in November and should be completed in four years.

When completed the trains would travel 105 km per hour for the single track and 150 km per hour for the double track.
