Dilma Rousseff, the new president of Brazil, told International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Jacques Rogge Saturday that her government will fully support the Rio 2016 Summer Olympic Games.
She said Brazil will “give all guarantees” to make sure Rio can host “a great event”.
She added that Brazil “will host the best Olympic Games in history”.
Rousseff was sworn in as Brazil’s new president Saturday replacing Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, who was instrumental in helping Rio win the Olympics last year. Her term ends in 2014.
Rogge and other IOC members were in Rio for the unveiling of the Rio 2016 Games logo on New Year’s Eve. The logo was selected several months ago from among 139 agencies that submitted designs. Eight made it to the final phase and a team of 15 national and international members of Rio 2016 selected the final design submitted by Rio design agency Tatil.
