New Arena Funding Boosts Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Bid

Funding for Glasgow’s new national indoor arena has boosted Glasgow’s bid for the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

Scottish Enterprise Glasgow is providing 25 million pounds in new funding for the 12,500-seat arena. The agency said the site would increase tourist numbers to the city and strengthen Glasgow’s bid to host the 2014 Commonwealth Games, reports the BBC.

As well as the arena, plans for the site also include a new hotel, public space and housing.

According to the BBC Glasgow City Council has already earmarked 15 million pounds for the arena and one million is to come from the EU. The remaining 77 million pounds will be financed privately.
