Reports say that NBC has asked Athens 2004 Olympic organizers to consider changing the starting times of some events. The network produced the worst Olympic TV ratings in 32 years during the tape-delayed Sydney Games.
Athens 2004 organizers said “for NBC shifting the events later into the evening is ideal because of the time-zone difference between Athens and the United States”. (Athens is seven hours ahead of the East Coast.)
“Both parties stressed that cooperation with sports federatons will be key to any such arrangements.”
NBC owns the U.S. TV rights to the Summer and Winter Olympics through 2008.
