Following a four day visit by the Commonwealth Games Federation Evaluation Commission to Glasgow last week, a new survey of Glasgow’s bid for the 2014 Commonwealth Games shows that 78 per cent of respondents said they were in favour of the Commonwealth Games being held in their city, 15 per cent were undecided and seven per cent said they were against it, reports the Scotsman.
Derek Casey, Glasgow 2014 bid director said, “the survey was carried out simply to see what the level of support is and it’s fantastic to hear that almost four out of five of the population are keen to have the games here. At the other end of the scale, the fact that there is only a small number against the games coming here is also a boost. But I have to say that it’s not entirely unexpected because all the areas I travel to, when I ask people what they think about the Games coming to the city, I have to say the usual response is that ‘it’s a great idea, son’. That has been fairly standard over the past six months. But we are delighted with the results of the opinion poll and it shows the hunger in the city for the games to come here in 2014”.
More than 1.7 million have pledged their support for the bid online.
