Most British MPs Not Confident In London 2012 Bid

The British newspaper The Independent reports Sunday that according to an exclusive poll carried out by the newspaper, three-quarters of MP’s were not confident that London’s bid for the 2012 Summer Olympic Games will succeed.

Of the 204 MPs surveyed by CommunicateResearch between October 29 and November 19, 72 per cent were “not particularly confident” or “not at all confident” that London will win the bid. Despite the government’s support for the bid, 62 per cent of Labour MPs said they were not confident in the bid and only 29 per cent were “fairly confident”.

London’s Mayor Ken Livingstone has said “public support is critical”. The International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) evaluation commission is to visit London February 16 to 19 and the city has to persuade the IOC that it has widespread public support.
