The Moscow government announces that having approved the list of major events required to nominate Moscow as a candidate city to host the 2012 Olympic Summer Games, Moscow will bid for the 2012 Games.
Moscow possesses a well-developed sport infrastructure including facilities, which can now be used to hold Olympic tournaments.
Other sports facilities will have to be renovated including a rowing basin, and an equestrian and sport centre.
Moscow will have to build a number of sport facilities, including a track and field stadium and a tennis centre.
Surveys show that 87 per cent of Moscovites support an Olympic Games in Moscow.
