Moscow has submitted a bid to host the 2005 Athletics World Championships, said Moscow Mayor Yury Luzhkov.
At a meeting with a visiting IAFF expert committee, Luzhkov stressed that Moscow has had experience of hosting top rank sporting events, including the 1980 Olympics. Moscow is also bidding for the 2012 Summer Olympic Games.
Following England’s withdrawal from hosting the event, the host city of the 2005 athletics championships remains vacant and Berlin, Brussels, Rome, Helsinki and Budapest are also bidding for the event. A decision will be made on April 14 in Nairobi, Kenya.
