Moscow Mayor Says City Prepared To Host The 2012 Games

In an interview on Russian RBK TV Moscow mayor Yuriy Luzhkov said that 92 per cent of Muscovites said they want the Olympics in Moscow. He called it very important.

When ask what good the Olympics will do for Moscow the mayor said a total of 60 per cent of the facilities are ready. He added the sports in Moscow are provided for as nowhere else in the world. He said one hundred World and European championships (were held in Moscow) in a very short time, and five hundred Olympic champions and world champions live in Moscow.

He said that they have shown Moscow will spend less on preparations for 2012 than any of their rivals. “This speaks for the potential Moscow has today for hosting the Olympics. This will give us additional sports facilities which will provide incredible potential for making our city a complex for playing all sports for many decades ahead”.
