A published report says that before 2010, Moscow will build about 100 new sports arenas with a total area of 1.2 million square metres, as envisaged by a long-term program of development of physical, culture and sports facilities in Moscow.
Plans include building 52 physical-culture and health-building complexes, six swimming pools, seven stadiums and ten “fast-to-erect” sports facilities.
A speed-skating stadium, several Alpine-skiing course, tennis courts and an aquatic sports centre are also planned.
If Moscow wins the 2012 bid, it will be necessary to construct another track-and-field stadium, a tennis centre and a water-slalom course.
Preliminary estimates show the cost of the program to be about $1.4 billion.
