Moscow 2012 Promotes Bid With Ice Sculpture Festival

The Olympic Symphony Ice Sculpture Festival to be held in Moscow from January 5 to 9 will be promoting Moscow’s bid for the 2012 Summer Olympic Games.

Sculptors will begin carving out ice models of Moscow’s known sporting venues on January 1.

Models will also be made of those venues Moscow’s bid committee plans to construct for the 2012 Games. Ice sculptures will be created by contestants from several Russian cities, depicting athletes and architecture of the four other bid cities.

Opening ceremonies for the festival and contest will take place January 5.

During the festival an Olympic Christmas tree, donated by the Moscow 2012 Olympic Ambassadors, will be on display in the centre of Moscow near the State Historical Museum. Muscovites and visitors to the city are invited to “vote” for the city they want to host the 2012 Summer Games by pressing a button on the Olympic Counter in Manezhnaya Square.
