Monterrey 2016 Bid Announcement May Be Near

There are reports that Monterrey Mexico may announce by the end of March it plans to bid for the 2016 Summer Olympic Games.

Monterrey 2016 officials said they met Wednesday with Gisela Guerrero, director of Public Relations for the city of Monterrey, who reportedly was very interested in the project, but the group would still have to hear from the Mexican Olympic Committee and are hoping to arrange a meeting between Monterrey’s Mayor and Felipe Munoz Kapamas, head of Mexico’s Olympic Committee.

During the meeting the group hopes that the municipality and the Mexican Olympic Committee will join together to support Monterrey bidding for the 2016 Summer Olympic Games.

Last June Kapamas said he was very interested in the proposal but although he was considering a bid for the 2020 Summer Games he did not rule out a 2016 bid.
