Wang Wei, vice president of the Beijing 2008 Summer Olympic Games, says Taiwan has agreed to participate in the Olympic torch relay. He said Monday, “in general both sides agreed that the torch relay can go through Taiwan. As for the details, they are under discussion”.
But Taiwan official Chen Ming-Tung has not confirmed the deal. Chen, chairman of the Mainland Affairs Council that handles policy toward China, said Monday the torch route “was still under discussion”.
There are reports that Taiwan may want the torch to enter and leave through two Asian nations – neither of them China.
