Although its far from being official, a first “political” survey has been launched nationally to see if there is support for a Milan-Lombardy bid for the 2012 or 2016 Summer Olympic Games.
The Region of Lombardy’s President Roberto Formigoni said that the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has already approved of a bid.
Formigoni said during a press conference that for the moment it was just a “hypothesis”. He said he and Milan’s mayor Albertini discussed the idea with some entrepreneurs and businessmen in the region. He added it was now up to the institutions and that such a decision must be supported by everyone.
The bid would be financed by institutions and through private investments.
