The Asian Age reports China enforced a media blackout Wednesday regarding the Opening Ceremony song, and all references to the story were removed from Chinese Internet sites.
Beijing 2008 organizers admitted Tuesday that a nine-year-old girl who was seen by millions around the world singing during the Opening Ceremony was actually miming a song that was pre-recorded by another girl.
No newspaper reported it Wednesday and state broadcasters also reportedly avoided the subject. References to the story were blocked or deleted from the Internet.
Meanwhile, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) said Thursday it frowned on Chinese security officials who allegedly manhandled a British journalist as he tried to report on a pro-Tibet protest in a Beijing park.
The Associated Press reports IOC spokeswoman Giselle Davis saying journalists should not be prevented from doing their jobs. “The IOC does disapprove of any attempts to hinder a journalist who is going about doing his job seemingly within the rules and regulations. This, we hope, has been addressed. We don’t want to see this happening again”.
