Mayor Orders Audit On Turin 2006 Games

Turin’s mayor Sergio Chiamparino said Monday that a team of auditors would inspect the Turin Olympic Committee’s books next month, following reports of a 180-million Euro hole in its finances.

A spokeswoman for Turin’s organizing committee confirmed Monday a 180-million euro (227.4 million) hole in the committee’s finances, adding that detailed figures would be published this week.

Adding to Turin’s difficulties, the president of the Turin 2006 Games threatened to quit in a power struggle over the Games.
