Madrid’s mayor accused ETA Thursday of trying to derail Madrid’s bid for the 2012 Summer Olympic Games by detonating a car bomb near Madrid’s main convention centre.
The bomb was near the IFEMA centre visited last week by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Evaluation Commission inspecting Madrid’s 2012 bid.
Mayor Alberto Ruiz Gallardon said in a television interview, “this does not help us and have no doubt that the people who carried out this attack, the terrorist group ETA, know that perfectly well”.
