Madrid Begins Construction Of Road To 2012 Olympic Village

Construction of the M-201, which will be the main access to the Madrid 2012 Olympic Village, has begun. The road, which will be completed next summer, will connect some of the main development projects that have been planned should Madrid host the 2012 Summer Olympic Games.

Francisco Granados, Transport and Infrastructures Council of Madrid’s Regional Government says “these works prove that the Regional Government of Madrid firmly supports Madrid’s bid to host the Olympic Games, an event that can be extremely important for the future development of the region”.

He explained that the M-201 road is being duplicated along a stretch of 2.5 kilometres to become the main access to both the Olympic Ring and the Olympic Village. The road will connect Coslada, a 2012 sub venue, and the M-40 ring road, and can be used for the future urban development that will take place in the area.

As well as the construction of an underpass, which will be built under sixteen railways of the Vicalvaro station, the current intersections will be replaced with roundabouts and a new lane for slow vehicles will be created.
