Madrid 2016 Bid Gets Major Citizen Support

Madrid’s bid for the 2016 Summer Olympic Games received 86.3 per cent support from its citizens in a public opinion poll of 1,000 residents between the ages of 15 to 79.

According to the poll, 85.8 per cent of respondents hope that Madrid will win the 2016 bid.

The main reasons why the respondents said they support the bid include improvements in the city’s infrastructures, the excitement of hosting the Games in their own city, and the advances the Games would bring to Spanish sport.

When asked which Spanish city is bidding for the 2016 Games, 98.3 per cent of respondents knew it was Madrid.

Also 60.4 per cent of participants in the poll believe in Madrid’s chances of being awarded the 2016 Games, and eight out of every 10 consider that Madrid can beat the other cities because it offers the best global project.

Ninety-one per cent say they are convinced the Games would benefit the city and 49.3 per cent of respondents say they would participate in the Olympic and Paralympic Games as volunteers, with 63.1 per cent of those between 15 and 24 years of age and only 29.9 per cent over 65 years.
