In order to attract tourism and large events, such as the 2012 Summer Olympic Games, Madrid’s city council has launched a “Madrid Limpio…y Olimpico” or “Madrid clean…y Olympic” campaign.
The city will undertake a new and novel road system of cleaning. A spokesman for the city’s cleaning and environmental department hopes that by converting Madrid to one of the cleanest cities in Europe it will help its bid for the 2012 Summer Games.
Representatives of a group called “The Tricicle” has sent a message to Madrid’s citizens that cleaning is fundamental to the city’s aspirations for the 2012 bid.
They said they expect the results of the campaign will show that “Madrid’s floor will be almost as clean as its sky”.
