Madrid 2012 Addresses Transportation

Magdalena Alvarez, Minister of Public Works, announced Wednesday a new plan that will involve the construction of 200 kilometres (100 in each direction) of “lanes exclusively for bus use” in all the motorways providing access to Madrid.

Once the new bus lanes are constructed in the main highways of Madrid, it will be possible for all venues to be reached by underground, bus or bicycle, eliminating the use of private cars should Madrid host the 2012 Summer Olympic Games.

Construction has already started on some roads and will begin on others in April.

Meanwhile, 23,500 volunteers have pledged their support and help for a Madrid 2012 Games, through its Web site. They come from more than 50 different countries and five continents.
