In a move to revamp London’s bid for the 2012 Summer Olympic Games, bid chairman Lord Sebastian Coe has brought in Olympic consultants MI Associates.
The company has been hired to make changes in response to several criticisms by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) including concerns about the number of events planned for outside Greater London and the fact that London 2012’s transport plans were not clear.
According to a report its possible that a suggested second athletes’ village outside London may be scrapped and there’s a question mark about events planned for outside London, such as the rowing races taking place in Berkshire.
MI Associates has worked on Sydney’s 2000 Olympics, Manchester 2002 and Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games, the 2007 Pan American Games and the Beijing 2008 Olympics.
The firm is to appoint a project manager to head a team working on the candidate file to produce detailed plans about the technical side of the bid.
Coe said: “We should leave no stone unturned in the pursuit of a winning bid. I believe we must improve on our proposals, and we must aim to produce the best technical bid when we submit our candidate file to the IOC in November”.
He added, “our aim is to put sport and the athletes’ right at the heart of the London 2012 Olympic bid”.
